New York State 18-Hour Concealed Carry Mandatory Training Course
New York State requires this mandatory training for individuals applying for or renewing a concealed carry permit. As of September 2025, New York State issues only two types of permits:

Premise Permit (also known as Sportsman Permit on Long Island) – Allows transport only to and from authorized training facilities and must be stored at home.

Concealed Carry Permit – Permits firearm carry in New York State, with exceptions in restricted locations where firearms are prohibited.
⚠️Important Notice:
If you hold any other type of permit, it will not be renewed without completing the 18-hour Concealed Carry Course. All renewed licenses will be reissued as concealed carry permits under civilian status, including those previously designated for retired law enforcement and business use.
Who is eligible for this course?
Anyone can take the class.
However, only those who fall into one of the following categories are eligible to obtain the carry permit.
*You also must be at least 21, a legal US resident, and have no prior felony or domestic violence convictions.

A valid New York State Driver’s License or NYS Government-Issued ID is required.

Course Description
This New York State CCW-mandated training consists of:
✅ 16 hours of in-person classroom instruction (Location Plainview)
✅ 2 hours of live-fire simulation training
Authorized Provider: AMB Security Solutions
Certification: A certificate of completion will be issued upon successful completion of the 18-hour training.
Classroom Instruction (16 Hours) includes comprehensive training on:
✔️ General firearm safety
✔️ Firearm storage best practices
✔️ New York State & Federal gun laws
✔️ Situational awareness for concealed carry – proper firearm display & concealment
✔️ Conflict de-escalation strategies
✔️ Effects of alcohol & drugs on firearm handling
✔️ Best practices for encounters with law enforcement
✔️ Statutorily defined sensitive & restricted locations
✔️ Conflict management techniques
✔️ Use of deadly physical force laws
✔️ Suicide prevention awareness
✔️ Basic marksmanship principles
Final Written Exam: At the end of the 16-hour classroom session, students must score 80% or higher on a state-required written test covering course material.
The Live-Fire Training (2 Hours) will cover:
✔️ Range safety protocols
✔️ Safe drawing, target acquisition & re-holstering
✔️ Dry firing exercises
✔️ Ammunition handling – loading & unloading procedures
✔️ Firearm condition check – achieving and verifying a safe & empty firearm condition
✔️ Live-fire exercises – proper firearm discharge under instructor supervision
Live-Fire Proficiency Test: Each student must demonstrate firearm proficiency as required by New York State, under the supervision of a Duly Authorized Instructor.
